An online collaboration cohort experience

Work through individual and team assignments each week and get years of experience specific to corporate learning in just 8 weeks. Sessions take place twice a week on Tuesdays and Thurdays from 6-8PM.

  • Instructional Systems Development (ISD)

You will learn how to do ISD and think about performance, not just courses. You will document your progress and create your own matrix for relevant theories and technologies. ADDIE, Design Thinking, Agile and Backwards Design frameworks are explored. There are levels to this.

  • 8-week Online Collaboration

There's no room for lurkers here. You have to attend, complete work sample assignments each week and support your team. You will create documentation of needs analyses, designs and build supporting materials for facilitation and eLearning.

  • TeamWork

We mean it. Your team decides whether you stay or need to go, just like in the real world. You can expect three to whatever additional hours will be needed to meet deadlines and goals. Lead, follow or roll out, the choice is yours. In the end you'll make friends and earn their respect as a professional.

It is really difficult to put into words how awesome Alex's Enterprise Instructional Designer course is. There is a good mix of theory and practice and it is challenging even if you have taken ID courses before. The challenges (assignments) we were given simulated the constraints, challenges and requirements that you will find in real-life scenarios (corporate, government) as an ID tasked with meeting an organization's business needs. On top of that, our cohort was amazing. I loved laughing and learning from and with my classmates.

With this course, I now feel equipped to apply the right approach to any training request. This course teaches you how not to automatically assume that a course is needed, but rather to determine the actual business problem and solution needed. And if training is actually needed, to consider a systemic approach to addressing the business needs. Being able to collaborate on teams and complete both group and individual projects to apply knowledge learned was an invaluable experience. I highly recommend this course for any new or transitioning ID.

The experience was eye opening. At first I was resistant to the process after having taught for so long. Slowly, I began to see how the instruction was being implemented based upon the learning theories and instructional goal of applying (not just understanding), the needs analysis, business needs, project lifecycles and interviewing SMEs. The process of application and demonstration provided a real life learning experience that challenged and stretched your thinking, but was always within your reach. This real world experience with support from peers and instructor created a group learning experience that all could share which was invaluable.
